I am always amazed and delighted at how, despite having tried so many weird things (so, so many), there are always so many newer weirder things I still haven’t thought of. Not caring that we’re out of all our regular smoothie ingredients, my son asked for a boonie (aka smoothie). I couldn’t bring myself to give him one without some kind of veg, but the only clean vegetable I had was red cabbage, and I wasn’t about to spend time washing something. I figured, why not?
You guys, it was shockingly delicious. Now, it seems kind of obvious to me; after all, its flavor is pretty mild and already a bit sweet. I can’t believe I’ve been missing out on this wonder ingredient for so long. And now I have another set of amazing nutrients to easily add to my toddler’s routine.
- 1 large handful shredded red cabbage
- 1 banana, frozen or refrigerated
- 1 cup nondairy milk
- 1 tablespoon raw flax seeds
- Blend until very smooth and creamy.
